Sasquatch and worms

Our class just finished reading aloud the book "Sasquatch" by Roland Smith. This Oregon Battle of the Books selection is packed with exciting action and plot twists. Here's what some students wrote about the book:

"I liked the book because it really builds up to the ending." - Kaya

"A question I have about this book is, where did Buck go? I really want to know!" -Keerthana

"I want to remember that Dylan did a really good deed and that he was brave." -Abby B.

"At first I thought this book would be boring, but it's not. It has lots of action." -Grace

"A question I have is, do they become friends with Sasquatch?" -Ayden

Last week, we also completed an investigation in which small groups recorded data and observations of worms eating a tomato over several days. This allowed us to carefully observe the critical role of decomposers in action and better understand how the processes of composting and decomposition work.

Buddy reading with Kindergarteners!

We met our new kindergarten buddies this week and enjoyed some one-on-one reading time! The kindergarteners selected favorite short stories and picture books. Fifth graders read to and with their buddies, sharing their own joy in reading with these budding young readers. We will be working with
our kindergarten buddies regularly on a variety of projects and topics this year!
